Lindrick's famous Ryder Cup course proved less than hospitable for the annual Corporate Classic team event. High rough, firm fairways, lightening fast greens and a brutally gusting wind provided a severe challenge to the 18 teams captained by the principles of leading local companies.

Accountants Landin Wilcox posted 73 points for a podium finish only to be beaten into second place by Aggregates R Us with one point more. However the top prize went to worldwide Insurance Brokers AJ Gallagher with what was an impressive 77 points in very trying conditions.  It is the second time that the team captained by Senior Director Jon Simpkin have lifted the trophy in the last three years.

The winners, left to right are James Foers, Richard Cox, Jon Simpkin and Nick Smith.

New Record at the historic Old Course

Lindrick's Nicola Slater made a frustrating start in the St.Rule Womens Trophy at St.Andrews and rounds of 78 and 80 left the Yorkshire and England player well down the field. However, that was all to change when the 18yo stood on the tee on her third and final round.

Nicola who is the current Norhern Ladies Champion started well on the Old Course with 2 birdies on the first seven holes. She then played the next seven holes in a remarkable seven under par and added another birdie on the infamous 18th to end her round bogey free with an eagle and eight birdies. Her final score of 66 equalled the Ladies Course record at what is one of the oldest and arguably the most famous golf course in the World.

The record equalling round boosted Nicola to 19th position but her performance will be remembered for that fantastic achievement in her truly remarkable third round.

Beef beats Beefy at Lindrick

Sir Ian Botham flew in to Lindrick early on Wednesday morning to play the third hole of his endurance challenge in which he plays a hole in each of the 18 counties that have a first class cricket team - in 24 hours!

Arriving by helicopter and rushing straight to the first tee his opponent, another Beef, European Tour Pro Andrew 'Beef' Johnson smashed his drive to within 70 yards of the green and as the picture suggests, Sir Ian made an appropriate and complimentary comment.......

Beefy was not as lucky as his drive ended in the gorse to left of the fairway bunker. In trying to play his second shot he experienced the prickles from the gorse in a very sensitive area and his hillarious reaction was captured by the Sky Sports TV cameras and broadcast later that morning on Sky Sports News.

Beef won the hole to go 2 up but the challenge was to end all square at the 18th in Middlesex which was played in darkness following delays due to helicopter issues later in the day. The challenge was in aid of the Beefy Charity Foundation which funds projects relevant to illness and other challenges facing young people.
